Sap!

Saturday I put in two prospecting taps in my sugarbush. I was concerned with the warming trend that I may be late or even miss the sap run. Sunday evening I was more concerned that I went too early when there was no sap in my milk jugs. Tonight I had a small victory. My jug closest to the house and in a less wooded area of my sugarbush was about 20% full of sap. The other tap had a small amount of sap that had already frozen. I am thinking after the Super Bowl to I will sink the other ten taps I am planning on doing this year.

If I can get 20 gallons of sap from my maples I am hoping to get at least 5 gallons of syrup. Provided I don’t mess this process up.

Congrats on the sap harvest. That’s one of the few reasons that I would like to live farther north. We are just a bit too far South. But I don’t like the temps you have to put up with.

Thanks. We will have to see how it goes. Still a little slowing the sap runs. I may have started too early, but only time will tell. You may not be able to syrup but I am sure you have a better go at fruit trees down by you. Getting antsy to start some seeds despite it still being early.
