Garden Update July 14th, 2012

A couple new things have popped up in the garden this morning so I figured I would post a quick update.  Today is shaping up to be a hot and humid one with temperatures in the 90’s.  We actually got a few sprinkles this morning which helped to keep us a little cool this morning.  As you can see from my sons photo the sky is looking a little cloudy.

This morning I saw the first encouraging sign of fruiting for the watermelon plants I had planted.  Our first flower appeared this morning.  Upon closer inspection I found several other buds.  Now all I need is some pollination.

One of the Giant Pumpkin plants is going bananas!  The vine has easily extended 4’ beyond the original raised bed and its to the point where I need to keep an eye on it to make sure it does not attach itself to the other neighboring beds or plants.  There are some great flowers on the plants – no fruit yet!

The cucumbers are starting to climb in my cucumber raised bed and two of the plants I planted in another bed have started fruiting.  I think there is 3-4 cucumbers starting to grow.
