We started our 2018 Maple Season this past Thursday by installing 40 taps and setting up or hobby sized vacuum pump on the West side of our Sugar Bush. As of 8 AM this morning we have 30 gallons of sap in the tank!
We have a busy day ahead of us this morning as we finish setting up the East side of our Sugar Bush and finish tapping out. This will be our first year with all of our 50 taps on vacuum.
Pulling about 17″ of vacuum with dry lines right off the bat with out vacuum system. This is huge for us because last year we spent a ton of time chasing out vacuum leaks at the taps and in our tubing set up. We must be doing something right.
This years winter weather and lack of snow pack in the woods means I need a little extra help (height) to install taps on some of our trees in the woods. Thankfully I always have a couple extra helping hands when tapping to get the job done.
